“If a gem is rare, durable, and suitable for polishing, having value and beauty that are intrinsic and not derived from its setting, then a great song must be a type of gem. As a recording songwriter, I know too well what it’s like to toil over a record for months, only to find that, all along, I was polishing the unpolishable. That’s why it was such a refreshing pleasure for me to make a record based on songs whose value and beauty have been universally recognized for decades or even centuries. I hope you enjoy these new settings of some of the most beautiful and durable gems of the classic Christmas carols. The two new Christmas songs I’ve included haven’t yet stood the test of time, but I think they’re good, and I think you’ll like them.”
